Rehabilitation Engineering

Overview

WWRC has access to Rehabilitation Engineering services to modify, customize, or fabricate assistive technology to enable individuals with disabilities to live more independently. WWRC maintains a large fabrication shop with full fabrication capability.

Program Goal

The goal of rehabilitation engineering is to provide clients with recommendations, guidance, and customized assistive devices. When jobsite accommodations are needed for a client to be successfully employed, these services may be available to an employer.  The scope of rehabilitation engineering services is as diverse as the challenges that WWRC clients encounter.

• Home accessibility accommodations
• Jobsite accessibility
• Work process accommodations to optimize employee performance
• Customization of assistive technology provided through WWRC Assistive Technology teams
• Design and fabrication of new assistive technology when client needs are not matched by available technology.

Contract services for WWRC Rehabilitation Engineering services may be negotiated with organizations, facilities, or companies.  These services may include modifications of specific worksites to accommodate the needs of employees with disabilities.
