Auto Mechanics Training Program Tire and Lube Technician | Automotive Service Technician

WWRC's Auto Mechanics Training Program currently offers two (2) Career Pathway:

A student may complete one (1) Career Pathway, or two (2) Career Pathways, if demonstrating proper competency per the Vocational Skills Records (VSR’s) on each Career Pathway.

Each Training Program curriculum and expected knowledge, skills, and abilities are developed in partnership with a designated Occupational Advisory Committee.

Automotive Training Program

Training Program Description: WWRC's Auto Mechanics Training Program is an approved program by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). While enrolled in the Training Program, students may earn a Customer Service workplace certification as well as the OSHA 10 workforce certification.


Tire and Lube Technician

Program Length 500 clock hours (80 training days/4 months) (1 Semester)
Prerequisites:
  • Meet WWRC admission criteria
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Have use of both arms and hands
  • Able to lie on back and work with arms overhead
  • Able to read and comprehend work orders and specification charts
  • Able to measure liquids by ounce
  • Able to read and comprehend linear measurements
  • Have sufficient vision
  • Able to lift 25-50 pounds on a daily basis
  • 7th grade reading level strongly preferred
Completion Requirements: A student must demonstrate mastery of a minimum 80% of core competencies, as documented on the Vocational Skills Record to be eligible for graduation.
Employment Settings: Graduates of this training program obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities for entry level employment in the service department of new and used car dealers, service centers, independent repair garages, and service stations. Job Titles may include: Tire Repairer or Lubrication Server.

Program Length 750 clock hours (120 training days/6 months) (2 Semesters, plus a Summeer Term)
Prerequisites:
  • Meet WWRC admission criteria
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Have use of both arms and hands
  • Able to lie on back and work with arms overhead
  • Able to read and comprehend work orders and specification charts
  • Able to measure liquids by ounce
  • Able to read and comprehend linear measurements
  • Have sufficient vision
  • Able to lift 25-50 pounds on a daily basis
