Manufacturing Technology Training (MTT) Program Manufacturing Technology Technician

WWRC’s Manufacturing and Production Training Area currently offers one (1) Career Pathway:

A student may complete one (1) Career Pathway if demonstrating proper competency per the Vocational Skills Record (VSR) on the Career Pathway.

Each Training Program curriculum and expected knowledge, skills, and abilities are developed in partnership with a designated Occupational Advisory Committee.

Manufacturing Technology Training Program

Training Program Description: WWRC's Manufacturing Technology Training Program is an approved program by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Students enrolled in the Manufacturing Technology Training (MTT) Program earn skills and competencies required to earn an Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 10 workforce certificate and to sit for the Manufacturing Specialist (MS) and Manufacturing Technician, Level I (MT1) exams leading to industry-recognized workforce credentials through the Manufacturing Skills Institute (MSI). Students also have the opportunity to attain the Virginia Career Readiness Certificate (Silver Level CRC is the required industry standard).

Supplemental Forklift Operator Training (54 clock hours/9 training days) may be pursued in conjunction with Manufacturing Technology Training (MTT) Program, based on employment goals and objectives. Due to safety concerns regarding forklift operation, students wishing to pursue this supplemental training must also have a current and valid driver's license or be working towards such with a current and valid learner's permit.

Prerequisites:
  • Meet WWRC admission criteria
  • Government Issued ID (required for credential test taking)
  • High School Diploma or GED (required by industry for employment)
  • Be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions
  • Be able to perform basic mathematical problems
  • Be able to work with a computer and peripheral equipment
  • Be able to work in a team environment within the MTT classroom/lab setting
  • Be recommended for program participation based on a customized Vocational Evaluation performed or approved through WWRC to include:
    • Use of assembly drawings to locate, identify and assemble a portion of a heat exchanger as exemplified by the training and evaluation laboratory model.
    • Assessment in reading comprehension based on manufacturing related problems.
    • Assessment in mathematics comprehension based on manufacturing related problems.
    • Use of measurement tools to determine size, weight and dimensions to the nearest legible mark (includes concepts of dimensional tolerances)
    • Assessment in basic electricity based on evaluation of answers with use of the test booklet, a multi-meter, and the Arduino Essential learning kit
    • Mechanical reasoning evaluation based on gearbox rebuild
    • VALPAR #3 simulated assembly test
Completion Requirements: A student must demonstrate mastery of a minimum 80% of core competencies, as documented on the Vocational Skills Record to be eligible for graduation.
Employment Settings: Manufacturing Technology Training Program graduates are prepared for employment in any modern manufacturing setting that may include positions in basic maintenance and Job Titles such as: Warehouse Worker, Machine Operator, Instrument Technician, QA Technician, Repair Technician, or Inspector and Packer.
